Villanova University Wildcats Fun Facts
Villanova University is a private university located in Radnor Township, a suburb northwest of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the United States. Named for Saint Thomas of Villanova, the school is the oldest and largest Catholic university in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Founded in 1842 by the Order of Saint Augustine, the university traces its roots to old Saint Augustine's Church in Philadelphia, which the Augustinian friars founded in 1796, and to its parish school, Saint Augustine's Academy, which was established in 1811.
The a href="http://www.villanova.com/sports/m-baskbl/nova-m-baskbl-body.html" target="_blank">Villanova Wildcats is the name of the athletic teams of Villanova University. They compete in the Big East Conference (NCAA Division I) for every sport except for football, where they compete in the Colonial Athletic Association (Football Championship Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA).
On December 18th 2009, the Wildcats played in the Division 1 AA (FCS) National Championship game against the University of Montana Grizzlies. The Wildcats beat the Grizzlies 23-21 to win their first DIV 1AA National Championship.
